"Our father, who art in 'Heaven', hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come blah blah blah. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us...from evil. Truer words were never spoken, huh sisters? But sometimes it seems as though it's difficult to know the creator. Sometimes I feel, in a very literal sense, that I have been wondering the desert for years looking for our father. Well not our Father...my Father. See he's in jail. Your dad put him there. I almost gave up hope. But, ye of little faith, because I finally found him - or at least, you know, a spot where his cage door opens. It's right here. In a damn convent, for God's sake! Life is funny...Then again, I suppose it makes sense. Folks forget that my daddy is an angel, after all. Or was. I mean, I suppose some dumb bastard stood here, felt a jolt of his holy juice and thought "I'm gonna build me a nun factory!" You know? It's the right idea. Wrong angel!"

This quote basically sums up what this guy is and was all about. Even when he is being hallucinated, he sounds exactly like this. Azazel here was a demon and not just any old demon. Well, perhaps it would be best to start with the fact that demons first came into existence because of Lucifer sneaking into the Garden of Eden to corrupt a certain Lilith into becoming the first demon and then other demons happened to come from corrupted souls as well that followed her. Azazel happens, or happened, to be one of the tougher customers that the boys would face up against.

Azazel's role in this particular story was the foundation in which the show was built.... or more in particular the force that drove the Winchesters to become what they would become in the world of hunters. What he did to the Winchester family was how the entire series started though it can really be traced back to an incident that occurred in 1972 when Azazel, after possessing a priest at St Mary's convent in Ilchester, Maryland, found the entrance to the Cage where Lucifer was confined at the time. After making the speech above in which he laments his search for the whereabouts of his father and the ironic choices of venues to be built above that Cage, he proceeds to slaughter all of the nuns at Mass. It is through one of the mutilated nuns that Lucifer was able to speak with Azazel to let him know how he could free him: He was told that Lilith was the one that needed to break The 66 Seals. He was also told to find a special child which, of course, turned out to be Sam and in reference to the other children that Azazel would later visit(but mostly Sam). Azazel enthusiastically agreed to do what he had to do to free Lucifer despite whatever difficulties might stand in his way. His devotion to Lucifer meant nothing would stand in his way.

This was why he would eventually have Jake Talley, one of the special children, use the Colt to break the deal on the massive devil's gate later on in the year of 2007.

In 1973 when Dean was sent back by Castiel to see exactly what happened to Sam, Dean has a run-in with Azazel when he possessed a doctor and then Samuel Campbell(Mary's father). It was here when Azazel took a shine to Mary Campbell, something that Dean ironically had a hand in when he attempted to stop the events that led up to Mary dying in the first place(as well as John and anybody else tied to the family). After first snapping young John's neck, he made a deal with her to visit Sam(my) in 10 years and that she should not interfere. She agreed and he sealed the deal with a kiss where her memory was erased of the incident. All according to plan of course since none of those events where meant to be altered in the first place. Nothing changed despite Dean's attempts to change the future.

Of course, as the series began, it showed a scene of infant Sam in his crib being visited by the yellow eyed 'stranger' who dripped blood into his mouth. Mary Winchester had taken that moment to come inside the room and, unfortunately, attempted to stop the ritual. Azazel wasted no time in forcing her up the wall and to the ceiling where her stomach was cut open and she and ceiling and the house were set ablaze. John Winchester and Dean, who retrieved Sam, made it out of the house here they watched the house go up in flames. The silhouette of the demon stood in the window to the baby's room before it eventually disappeared. This began a search that would span several years of John and then eventually Sam and Dean tracking down this demon in order to kill him for what he did to their family. But first...

When Sam was in college later on in life, Azazel had a demon possess Sam's friend Brady to make sure to introduce Jessica to him. He later claimed that he did this solely to be able to take her away from him. It was Brady, demon possessed of course, that killed Jessica on Azazel's orders. They have no idea what Azazel was at this point, but that would be confirmed by John later on. She was murdered in the same way as Mary was. After that, Sam and Dean are on the road tracking down John who is relentlessly pursuing Azazel as he has been ever since the demon murdered Mary. He tried to dissuade Sam and Dean from joining him in the hunt of the demon and sending them on other hunts, but they eventually join forces once one of John's old friends was killed by vampires.

At some point during these hunts before the boys ran into John, Azazel's "daughter" Meg(real name unknown as this was the name of her vessel that she possessed) made contact with Sam. She kept tabs on him and tried to keep him a little further away from Dean to separate the two. She also kept contact with Azazel to let him know what was going on. She had a disagreement with him over why Azazel did not allow her to personally kill off the two brothers when she had the chance. There was no reply shown here, but it was likely that Sam was still important to him plan(or rather Lucifer's plans). Meg also attempted to get a hold of John by lying out a trap for him given his proximity to figuring out how to kill Azazel. During one of her "chance" meetings with Sam, she revealed that she was working with Azazel.

She personally started to kill off John's friends one by one when the Colt came into their possession. She even killed one over the phone in order to lure John out. This plan succeeded and somewhere in between John being captured and being rescued by Sam and Dean, he took possession of John which was not discovered until later on. During the rescue attempt, Tom, one of Azazel's "children", was killed by the Colt. This would be mentioned later on in the secluded cabin where the boys and "John" were holed up waiting for the demon. He gave away his possession when he was a little too supportive of Dean using the Colt against Tom. He finally allowed his true nature to come through and he taunted the boys over being able to take possession of John and how John "says hi". Azazel revealed with anger that Tom and Meg were his children after Dean tried to make a plea about family.

"Well, this is fun. I could've killed you a hundred times today but this...this is worth the wait."

Dean taunted Azazel about "wasting" his "children", something that pissed off the demon quite apparently in the way that his voice rose with the descriptions of his "daughter" and his "boy" being killed. Azazel retaliated by using biokinesis on him to make him bleed internally and outwardly. He was visibly bothered by the comment that Dean made. He also taunted Sam earlier to will the gun to himself. He attempted to do this a few times while Dean pleaded with his father. John eventually got control enough to free Sam from being pinned to the wall. Sam grabbed the Colt, Azazel taunted him through John's body. Instead of killing Azazel though, given that he was possessing John's body at the time, Sam was unable to kill him and instead shot him first in the leg. John ordered, or rather demanded, that Sam shoot him with the Colt to end it all. Sam was still unable to kill him though and Azazel fled from John's body.

After the accident on the way to the hospital, Sam, Dean, and John are in the hospital with Dean on life support. While Dean was trying to figure out how to wake back up with Sam trying to help out, John took the items that Bobby collected for him and summoned Azazel to the basement who was very amused indeed that John of all people would do such a thing after all of their history together and all. John tried to trade the Colt, but Azazel said that it would not be enough. Dean had taken his "children" away so he needed John to "sweeten the pot" with something he wanted more. Minutes later, he possessed the reaper Tessa who was after Dean to take him to the afterlife and Azazel resurrected Dean through her abilities. Dean did not remember anything of what happened. He had a bad feeling as John walked into the room to basically say his goodbyes and stepped out into the hallway where he told Azazel he was ready to go. He placed the Colt down before he did so.

John was found on the floor of his hospital room dead and the boys realized what he had done: He exchanged his life to Azazel for Dean to live instead. Azazel would accept nothing less than that, something he made quite clear in the basement after John summoned him. Even the thing that was meant to kill things like Azazel himself was not a good enough trade for the demon.

Azazel was not mentioned again until "Croatoan" in River Grove, Oregon where the Croatoan Virus was released on the town by a Dwayne Tanner. He was a demon that was sent there presumably by Azazel to test out Sam who, as it turned out, was immune to the virus. Dwayne informed Azazel of this after slaughtering a man by slitting his throat and collecting the blood into a special chalice to contact him which was how Meg contacted him as well.

He was not seen or mentioned again until "All Hell Breaks Loose - Part 1" where the special children all wake up in an abandoned town, later called Cold Oak when Dean would have a vision of it after Andy projected that image into his head before Andy was soon killed. Before that though, the special children were confused and unsure of why they were there and how they ended up getting there in the first place. They are attacked by demons and they moved to barricade themselves inside with salt. Ava, one of the special children that Sam and Dean had met previously, turned out to be against all of them. She had been visited by Azazel in her dreams previously and she had been killing off other special children for months before she was placed in the town here with the rest of them. She very nearly killed Sam, but Jake Talley snapped her neck.

Before Ava was discovered or killed, Sam was visited by Azazel in a dream. There Azazel told him that this was a competition to get the last man standing as they were needed to be a leader in a war. When he was questioned on what this war was, Azazel said that said army was nearly assembled. This was something that Azazel had been doing for quite some time as he was the leader of Hell, this fact not being known to the boys until later on. Obviously, Sam was not interested in any of this and told Azazel that the demon ruined his life. Azazel told him that it was Mary's fault for interrupting and, since he was in a charitable mood and all, he allowed Sam to revisit that incident in the nursery all of those years ago. Despite Sam wanting to change what happened, the demon reminded him that this was just a glimpse back. High def, but that was all that it was and all it would ever be.

The demon showed Sam how he had dripped blood into the infant Sam's mouth and that Mary had stepped in and mistaken him for John, so she left. She came back up when she realized that it was not John. Once the demon revealed himself with his yellow eyes, she appeared to recognize him. That was when the demon psychically pushed her up the wall to the ceiling where her stomach was slit open and the glimpse was cut off before the room could explode into flames. Jake woke Sam up out of his dream. Along the way, Jake and Sam became the last two. In the end, Sam didn't want to kill him and he put his weapon down. Dean and Bobby arrived. Sam, distracted, was stabbed in the back and killed by Jake.

Azazel appeared before Jake later on in the woods to congratulate him on being the last man standing, the "American Idol" he teased, that he was not betting on him in the first place but he sure as hell beat the odds. When Jake tried to refuse what Azazel wanted him to do, the demon threatened his family without a hitch and Jake had no choice but to accept the demons terms. He also mentioned that Jake would be handsomely rewarded in so many ways which helped. Azazel didn't even flinch when the Colt was pointed his way, openly and truthfully describing it as the one thing that could kill him. Even having it POINTED at him just made him smile. Gotta retain that bravado! Jake was pointed in the direction of where that crypt was and Jake successfully managed to open the gate to Hell with the Colt before Sam shot him dead. Once the demons are released, the smoke cloud of them broke through the tracks to break the barrier and Azazel was able to successfully cross into it. He wasted no time in confronting Dean, or rather he showed up deliberately in Dean's sights knowing that he would come after him.

"I couldn't have done it without your pathetic, self-loathing, self-destructive desire to sacrifice yourself for your family!"

Dean, even with the Colt in hand, was not able to shoot Azazel in time before the demon teleported the gun into his own hand and used his telekinesis to force him up against a grave. As he did when he was possessing John's meatsuit, he openly mocked Dean by thanking him for returning Sam to life with that deal he made with a Crossroads demon earlier on. Sammy was indeed his favorite, so he was pleased to have him alive and kickin'! He would have GLADLY taken out Dean right then and there had John not appeared out of nowhere to hold the demon in place, knocking him temporarily from his current meatsuit. This allowed Dean to procure the Colt once again. Despite the demon overpowering John and returning to his vessel, Dean was already set and ready to gun the demon down and that was exactly what happened.

Despite this, the demon's influence over the brothers' lives would impact them for as long as they have been living. To top that all off, Azazel was pulled from BEFORE that bullet actually managed to hit him. All of that bravado, that mocking tones that all demons seem to share, will be coming along for the ride. To be honest though, even if he HAD died before getting here, he'd just find it all to be one hilarious ride that he would make the most of. After all...he STILL ended up somewhere with the Winchesters and even a few friends and enemies he will love and hate to meet...but mostly love. Despite his fear of what the Colt could do to him, given that it was one of the only means that John came up with to defeat him, he will look at this place as an answer to that: That even something like that couldn't actually end up killing him.

The idea of anybody coming from different time periods will be a trip. It wouldn't be like he could not just read somebody's mind to figure out all of the things that end up happening. As a demon, he would use that to his advantage just as he used everything else that he discovered to break down the will of those he intended on killing. All in all...not such a bad place to end up at for a demon that got cut down a little bit early in this crazy timeline of events. Can't say no to second chances! Who knows what deals await him?

Abilities/Special Powers:
Azazel is/was a pretty high ranking demon. This was the first real big bad that the boys faced. He happens to be the only demon that has ever shown up that had yellow eyes. Rank wise, there has never been an explanation for this. One could assume he was high enough up since he was kind of ruler of Hell for a spell when Lucifer was imprisoned in Hell/before his own death.
Demonic Possession - This is kind of a demon's standard way of getting around is to possess the body of a poor, unfortunate human. They call these bodies meatsuits. He also happens to be the only being that has ever actually possessed the body of a Reaper. Pretty neat trick if he does say so himself! And, as a demon, he doesn't need permission to take a ride in your skin. Enjoy the ride!
Super Strength and Telekinesis - In the bodies of humans, he displayed pretty impressive feats like snapping the necks of humans quite casually and, with the latter, tossing around people like rag dolls. He had the uncanny knack for forcing them up against walls and mocking their inability to do a damn thing. For a demon, he was a little more skilled than some at this.
Biokinesis - He conveyed his ability to do this when Dean did a really stupid thing and mocked the deaths of his children. Azazel responded in kind by making him bleed internally and externally until he nearly killed him.
Pyrokinesis - He tended to light buildings on fire. This generally followed his habit of lighting mothers on ceilings ablaze. Pretty routine stuff.
Immunity/Invulnerability - Azazel was immune to several demonic weaknesses, he was immune to Holy Water, Salt and was able to walk on holy ground. Nuff said really.
Immortality - This is a given really. This obviously does not make him necessarily unable to be killed since...well...he'd rather not mention it.
Resurrection - He was able to resurrect dying or dead humans, though he had to first make a deal with a living human, he explicitly stated that he couldn't resurrect people unless a deal was made, dismissing it as "red tape". Most notably, he returned Dean to life when he possessed a Reaper.
Super Demon Stamina - Azazel did not require food, water, oxygen, or sleep to sustain himself.
Reality Warping - He could alter the world around him in the context of a demonic deal. Nuff said here as well. He didn't need a soul to do it as he is just that badass. This is basically what he does when he enters a dream and manipulates what the person is seeing.
Dream Walking - He did this often, most prominently shown with his special children. While in dreams he could show them things from the past like what he showed to Sam. He was mentioned to have visited others, but this was not necessarily shown.
Weather Manipulation/Electrokinesis - His presence causes crazy shit to happen with the weather. Doubtful anybody would notice that here. Maybe they'd notice electrical appliances flickering and sparking though since he can make this happen on purpose.
Healing - He fully healed Dean by forcefully taking control of the Reaper that intended on reaping him and restored a younger John to life after snapping his neck. Even if deals were involved in both of these, this is a pretty impressive feat.
Memory Manipulation - He has this neat little trick where he can make people forget things like never making a shady deal with him in the first place. Others may not find this to be so appealing.
Bullshit-O-Meter/Demon spidey senses - Don't lie to him. He will probably figure you out just by smelling you or something. Also lying is wrong and he hates that.
Flight/Teleportation - Well...he really doesn't NEED to fly unless he's in smoke form since teleporting is the way to go nowadays. He can teleport pretty quickly and take people with him whether they like it or not. He can go from Hell to earth and vice versa without a hitch. Too bad he won't be able to get past those stupid mirrors here. More red tape.
Spell-casting - Like any other demon, he has the ability to perform rituals though his involved communicating with Lucifer down in the Cage.

Okay...so this guy has to have weaknesses, right? Well...the Colt is an obvious one, ain't it? He can't cross iron no matter how stupid that might be to him and any other demon. Oh! And let's not forget devil's traps. Nope. Don't forget that.

Third-Person Sample:
All in all, this wasn't the worst place that Azazel had ended up at before. He did not really give much of a damn about that...maybe none at all really! He could only remember so much before it was all a blur over centuries and centuries. Who kept tabs on all of that especially when he was so busy doing his father's dirty work? Dirty work was his favorite kind! Here though...he had no idea what to expect! Oh, there were PLENTY of opportunities to cause a lot of trouble here given the population and he wasn't even just talkin' about the obvious. Let's face it though...Sammy and Dean being here...it was like somebody out there was lookin' out for old Azazel! The last thing he remembered was having that pain in the ass gun pointed at his chest and that bullet being fired. He didn't want to admit being in the position of being dead and all...but...welllll...he guessed he should've been a little more careful when it came to those Winchesters!

They sure did have it in for him! He guessed he couldn't really BLAME them or anything given the circumstances. It was like he told Sammy though! It really wasn't his fault that the woman pestered him in the room! She should've left well enough alone! She would've been alive and well today if she didn't do something like that! Sometimes demons just got a bad rap! It wasn't like he was actually...HURTING anybody...no matter how much that he wanted to in some instances...most instances...ya get the picture here! The point was that he warned her a long time ago what was going to happen and she went completely against that. See? Not his fault! Maybe next time he'd offer up a contract to sign or something.

Or maybe not...nah! What would be the point of that when he could have so much more fun just letting things happen? That was what they all wanted to call fate anyways. Who was he to go up against something like that? Or somebody? He shrugged. Nah! Best to leave things up to chance given how lucky he'd been up to this point! After all, he did end up HERE instead of dead as dead could get! By this point, he accepted that he slipped up somewhere in there. He should've known that John would come on out with the rest of the Hell Squad to try and get him and BOY DID HE! HAHA! Well...the joke would be on him and his boys when ol' Azazel up and made those boys join their daddy in Hell the way that nature intended!

All in good time though. If there was anything that he learned, it was best to let everything fall into place naturally. There were many that doubted him and Lucifer in general. That any of the others could doubt his father...THEIR father...he just wanted to smack some sense into all of them! But anyways...until then, he had plenty of chances to see what kind of mischief he could make around here. There was always time for that.

"And it's about time I had a little fun. It'd be disappointing to waste a vacation like this!"

First-Person Sample:
[Well, isn't THIS just the craziest shit ever! The last thing he remembers is not being in the best position and suddenly he's here! ]

I admit it...I'm impressed! I have no clue who did this, but they must be somethin' special! It's not easy to pull something off like this but, kudos! A for effort!

[The thing is that his enthusiasm is actually pretty accurate. It really isn't often that he sees something like this on such a grand scale. He has to be out of his mind with the others he could swear were here with him. If they are here then what exactly is going on?

Maybe he should just ask. That tends to make things a little more clear.]

I feel like I know some people here. I could be wrong though. Deja vu's a hell of a thing! Don't be shy though. Come on down! I'm just itchin' for some good, old fashioned conversation! I might even consider it in person!

[By consider it, he means that would be his favorite kinda meeting right about now. There is no better way of getting to know a person than doing it face to face...in some cases a littttttttle closer when it comes to possession and all. Anything goes really!]

I have a feeling that I'm gonna find this place real interesting.
